A photograph of myself against a background of greenery.
Hello! My name is Lucy Deacon, and I am a PhD researcher studying in Coventry University since September 2023. I've worked for the last few years in maths support, both as a private tutor and with the Maths Learning Centre in Dublin City University. Along with my PhD responsibilities, I work part-time in the sigma Maths and Stats Support Centre in Coventry University.
TOPICS
My PhD research. I'm interested in what happens when students in higher education work collaboratively in a maths learning support setting.
My academic workflow. I spent the first few months of my PhD struggling to work with a few different programs before figuring out what worked for me.
My keyboard. I designed a stenography keyboard for myself because I wasn't happy with available keyboards.
RESOURCES
Maths support
sigma have a tonne of maths and stats resources listed on their website.
Sheffield University's "Which test?" helps you find the right statistical test through a series of simple categorically questions.
Paul's Online Notes were part of how I got through my undergrad. Really useful for studying algebra, calculus, and differential equations.
Tools
Obsidian is what I use for all my note-taking. I've written more about it here.
Zotero is what I use for organising my references. I've written more about it here.
If you don't like the built-in whiteboard as part of Zoom or Microsoft Teams, you might want to try out OpenBoard.
